An estimated 100,000 Marylanders this year will become newly eligible for Medicaid assistance in Maryland. Medicaid provides health coverage for some low-income people, families and children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with disabilities. The benefits covered are different in each state, but certain benefits must be covered by every Medicaid program. You may now qualify for Medicaid in Maryland. Under the ACA, Medicaid eligibility is expanding throughout the state. More people than ever will qualify for Medicaid assistance starting in 2014. Even if you were told you didn’t qualify for Medicaid in the past, you may now qualify under the new income eligibility rules. What to expect
If you are currently enrolled in Medicaid, you are already covered. You don’t need to come to MarylandHealthConnection.gov to apply for coverage. Also, your benefits are not changing.
If you are currently enrolled in the Primary Adult Care program (PAC) in Maryland, you will automatically be enrolled in full Medicaid benefits as of January 1, 2014. You will receive a notice from the Medicaid Program about the changes to your benefits before January 1.
Not sure if you are eligible for Medicaid? If anyone in your family is eligible for Medicaid, coverage will be effective back to the first day of the month you applied in.
