Can Retroactive Medicaid count towards the three months of Medicaid coverage to qualify for Transitional Medical Assistance?

Retroactive Medicaid may count towards three months of Medicaid needed to qualify for TMA if the parent or caretaker relative:

  • Qualifies for all three months of retroactive Medicaid as a low-income parent or caretaker relative and selects these months when choosing a program; and
  • Resolves any outstanding income verifications for retroactive Medicaid; and
  • Meets the above eligibility criteria for TMA.

Once any income verifications for retroactive Medicaid are resolved, a change report on the application is needed so that the household’s eligibility for TMA can be redetermined.
