Dina was taught by her parents, “Success doesn't just come and find you, you have to go out and find it yourself.” With this belief, she left her home and her family in Nepal five years ago in pursuit of success. For her, that meant a better education and a better life. As an international student in Baltimore, Dina is now in her last semester to attain a bachelor's degree in mass communications.
The 25-year-old student explains that in Nepal the language, culture and lifestyle are different. She describes how being an immigrant living on her own in a foreign country has made her independent. When Dina first arrived in the United States, she learned that in addition to tuition and living expenses, she needed to pay for health insurance.
“There is so much to learn and experience,” said Dina. On the bright side, she believes that it has helped her become stronger.
Until June 2019, Dina had health coverage through her university. She paid twice the amount than she pays now. “With all the expenses, I was always worried and couldn’t concentrate on my studies,” said the Baltimore County resident.
She recently got covered with an affordable health insurance plan through Maryland’s health insurance marketplace. “I was happy to learn about Maryland Health Connection. It helped me find an affordable health plan,” said Dina.
With health insurance from Maryland Health Connection, Dina says she is more relaxed knowing she’s covered if the unexpected happens. “I now pay $4 a month for my health insurance. It gives me peace of mind, and now I can focus on my studies wholeheartedly,” she said.
