Maryland Health Connection’s mobile enrollment app this week passed the 100,000-downloads milestone and also helped the organization earn the award for ‘Best Marketing Technology Campaign’ from the American Marketing Association (AMA) Baltimore.
At the AMA’s 32nd Annual Marketing Excellence Awards held April 6, Maryland Health Connection was among the winners for its redesigned website and mobile application rollout.
The AMA’s Marketing Excellence Awards recognize local organizations that demonstrate outstanding creativity, implementation and results in their marketing campaigns. In its award presentation, the AMA cited the redesign of the MarylandHealthConnection.gov health insurance website, a streamlined insurance application and the roll-out of the mobile app.
The mobile app, “Enroll MHC,” which launched last fall for iOS and Android devices, had reached 100,052 downloads as of Tuesday and allows Marylanders to enroll in both qualified health insurance plans and Medicaid. This feature is the first of its kind among the nation's health insurance marketplaces.
The app also allows users to find in-person help near them with the GPS filter, verify application information by using the camera on their phones to securely upload documents, and easily check notices in their account inbox.
Users checked inbox notices on average 3,000 times a day, uploaded verification documents 300 times a day and completed 50 enrollments per day. Two-thirds of the usage was for Medicaid enrollments.
The app also was important in helping the exchange engage with young adults. In fact, Maryland’s share of enrollments among 18-34-year-olds (“young invincibles”) ranked fifth in the nation, up from ninth in 2016, according to the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
