Mark your calendar: Open enrollment for 2018 health and dental plans is November 1 to December 15, 2017. Coverage starts January 1.
The six-week enrollment period (in past years, enrollment was 90 days or more) is designed to simplify coverage-effective dates and better align with enrollment for other programs like Medicare.
The annual open enrollment period is your chance to enroll in a health or dental plan, or to change plans if you’re already enrolled. Plans and prices change every year, so you should shop to find the best one for you and your family.
You don’t have to wait until open enrollment to get covered — people who have recently experienced certain life events (like losing other health coverage, getting married or having a baby), and people who are eligible for Medicaid can enroll at any time.
Plus, you shouldn’t wait until this fall to tell us about any changes in your household or income. Review your information at MarylandHealthConnection.gov carefully, and use the “Change My Information” button if anything has changed.
It’s important to tell us about changes such as getting married or divorced, gaining or losing a dependent, a change in tax-filing status or citizenship/immigration status, and corrections to your name, date of birth, or Social Security number.
If you don’t update your income and household information, your premium tax credit and other savings for 2017 could be wrong.
Now is also a good time to be sure you’re getting the most out of your current plan. Check out our tips here on finding a doctor, getting free preventive care to help you stay healthy, and understanding your coverage and costs.
