A treat for your teeth! Open enrollment starts Nov. 1

Trick or treat! With both Halloween and open enrollment almost here, Maryland Health Connection is here to deliver a treat for your teeth.

Open enrollment for 2018 health and dental plans starts November 1. Here are three things to remember when shopping for coverage:

1) Health plans through us also cover pediatric dental.

Pearly whites may be harder to come by this time of year, with all the trick-or-treating leading to a month’s supply of candy.

We know you want your child to visit the dentist after this month, so all health insurance plans cover pediatric dental care. In fact, preventive dental services for children – such as periodic cleanings and checkups – are free of all cost-sharing, such as copays.

Worried about the cost?
Maryland Health Connection is the only place you can get financial help with your health plan. In fact, 9 out of 10 people who enroll qualify for lower costs.

You can also get free, in-person help to apply for coverage and see if you qualify for savings through Maryland Health Connection: search here for a navigator or broker near you.

2) You can buy a dental plan online, in person, or through our mobile app.

For grownups, you can add a dental plan when you shop for health coverage, or buy a standalone dental plan, so you can set a great example for your children.

Just select the plan you want on MarylandHealthConnection.gov, through our free mobile app (Enroll MHC) or with free, in-person help. Maryland Health Connection offers child-only and family dental plans for 2018.

Before you choose a plan, use our provider search to find a dentist near you, or check with your dentist’s office to see which insurance plans they accept.

3) Dental care is covered for many people enrolled in Medicaid.

Pregnant women and children who are enrolled in Medicaid or the Maryland Children’s Health Plan (MCHP) receive free dental care, along with adults in Rare and Expensive Case Management (REM). In addition, some managed care organizations (MCOs) (PDF) offer limited dental coverage for adults 21 and older.

If you or your family members are eligible for free or low-cost health coverage through Medicaid or MCHP, you can apply all year round, not just during Maryland Health Connection’s open enrollment period.

So if you plan to treat yourself to candy this Halloween, don’t forget to also enroll in a dental plan! Head to MarylandHealthConnection.gov today to browse plans, and enroll in dental or health coverage November 1 to December 15.
