Public Charge and Green Card Applications
Starting Sept. 18, 2026, enrolling in Medicaid or a private health plan with financial help may affect a future green card application under Public Charge rules. If you enroll a dependent, their coverage may also be considered if you later apply for a green card.

If you plan to apply for a green card or have questions about your immigration status, talk with a trusted immigration attorney before making decisions about your health coverage or other benefits.
